Honors Board Leadership Change
At its 2007
annual meeting The Land Trust for the Little Tennessee (LTLT) honored
Thomas J. Quigley for his two-year service as Chairman of the Board
of the community-based land conservation organization. Tom joined
the LTLT Board in 2001 and has served as Chair since early 2005.
During his tenure as Chair from May of 2005 to May of 2007, the
Land Trust experienced an unprecedented growth in land protection
activities, with land directly conserved by the organization increasing
from 935 acres to 5238 acres. Prior to 2005 LTLT had focused most
of its resources toward the conservation of the 4500-acre Needmore
Tract with its 26 miles of Little Tennessee River frontage in Macon
and Swain Counties which was purchased by the State of North Carolina
in 2004. |

Quigley is an
electrical engineer who helped design and perfect the cable modem
in the 1990s while working for Broadcom, an Irvine, California.
based company. Tom continues to work for Broadcom out of his home
in southern Macon County although his job requires extensive travel.
Richard B. Clark was elected to succeed Quigley as Board Chair for
LTLT. Richard is founder and principal partner of Clark & Co.
Landscape Services, a Macon County family owned and operated business
that provides landscape architecture and construction services throughout
Western North Carolina. Richard joined the Land Trust Board in 2002
and served as Board Vice-Chair for the past two years.
Also at its annual meeting the Land Trust elected Lydia Sargent
Macauley of Highlands to serve as Secretary and Richard Heywood
of Otto to serve as Treasurer. New Board members Robert Hawk and
Frank Watson of Jackson County and Michael Green of Buncombe County
were also elected to the Board at this meeting.
Through the guidance of this new leadership, LTLT will continue
to expand its mission to conserve the waters, forests, farms, and
heritage of the upper Little Tennessee and Hiwassee River Valleys.
