The
West Swain 4-H Club, Swain Aces Home School group and several
other children from the Needmore community participated in
the Needmore Game Lands spring cleanup on Saturday, March
25. The young volunteers focused on cleaning up the area around
Lower Brush Creek near the Needmore Swinging Bridge. Their
hard work really payed off, as collectively the kids picked
up nearly a dump truck full of trash and old metal parts alongside
the Little Tennessee River. Dessert for the participants was
provided by several of the young ladies.
An appreciative
Dennis Desmond of the Little Tennessee Land Trust commented,
"It is great to have the young members of our community
come out to help. This is public land...their land. They are
learning to appreciate it, and take care of it."
The cleanup
was sponsored by Mountain Neighbors for Needmore Preservation,
in partnership with the Little Tennessee Land Trust and the
NC Wildlife Resources Commission.
