For
his Eagle Scout project, local Boy Scout James Rish recently
worked to construct and erect ten blue bird houses on LTLT's
Tessentee Farm property. James worked under the advice of
his father, Larry Rish, to construct the houses, which are
designed for easy monitoring and cleaning. The big day came
on a chilly Sunday morning, December 10, 2006, when James,
two of his fellow Scouts, Allen Chase and Caleb Moore, and
a few scout leaders met up at Tessentee Farm with LTLT's Dennis
Desmond. Naturalist Jack Johnston, who has helped lead numerous
outings for LTLT, was on hand to offer advice on box location.
LTLT's Tessentee Farm has been a magnet for birders the past
few years, with a bird list of well over a hundred species.
Thanks to James, bluebirds and other box-nesting species have
a few new homes at the site.
