LTLT
purchased 160 acres on the Little Tennessee River at Lost
Bridge in northern Macon County in September 2003. This is
a key parcel adjacent to the 4500-acre Needmore Tract. It
was the third river corridor property conserved by LTLT in
the Needmore area and expanded to 2.5 miles and 340 acres
the total riverfront acreage conserved by the Land Trust.
The Lost Bridge tract, a prime target for riverside development,
now continues to provide a forested link from the river bottom
to the Cowee Mountains. It also has the potential to provide
public access to the river at the main highway bridge along
twenty miles of river.
The Lost
Bridge acquisition would not have been possible without the
support of our individual donors, as our unrestricted funds
have been a key component in putting together this as well
as every other river conservation project. |
