LTLT kicked off 2005 with the purchase of another key riverfront
property in northern Macon County. This 16-acre parcel with
2,100' of river frontage lies at the end of Coggins Bend,
within a half mile of three outlying parcels of the Needmore
Tract. An aerial view of Coggins Bend is the "March"
picture in LTLT's 2005 calendar.
Four years
ago a developer had acquired this property to subdivide into
fourteen riverfront lots. Development on this floodplain would
have degraded water quality in the river, created a public
safety hazard in future floods, and disrupted the scenic beauty
along a magnificent reach of river. Now this stand of floodplain
forest will continue as intact wildlife habitat and as a quiet
backdrop for those who float or fish the river.
